ABOUT US…

"If you want to plan for a year, plant wheat If you want to plan for ten years, plant a row of trees But, If you want to plan for hundred years Educate your women " - Chinese Proverb Perhaps these words of the Chinese proverb may be the highest form of commendation attributed to the foresight and forethought of the munificent founders of this great institution ‘Vidya Seva Rathna’ Thiru. A.D. Jeyaveerapandian and his brothers who planned the future of a hundred generations of women folk in this part of the land when they founded A. Doraisamy Nadar Maragathavalli ammal College for Women in the cherished memory of their esteemed parents, in the year 1975 in Nagapattinam.

The far reaching vision of the architects of this college in establishing this institution exclusively for women is highly prophetic because today education is believed to be the only enduring means of instilling self - confidence and self – esteem in the women folk of India. Prior to 1975, students had to go to far off places in pursuit of higher education after schooling. Only the girls from affluent families could afford it, for the others higher education remained an expensive dream. So the primary objective of the Founders of this college was to throw open the doors of higher education to the women students of Nagapattinam and its neighbourhood irrespective of their financial back ground, caste or creed. Incidentally poor fishermen and farmers formed the majority of the local population and they welcomed the founding of this institution even as the ‘Scorched Earth’ welcomes the early showers of rain.

The role of higher education in the development of women is of paramount importance. It is the live wire behind the economic and social development of women. A.D.M. College, identified as a centre of women’s higher education par excellence has amply justified its objectives by producing 4,220 of U.G. and P.G. students since 1981, who contribute to the societal development in one way or other. The college is a recipient of 529 university ranks since 1981.

The academic achievement of the institution has been commended by the Government of Tamilnadu on its evaluation of academic performance of all the Government aided colleges in Tamilnadu for the year 1998 – 1999 and according to the proceedings of the Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Chennai RC. No. 35205 / 34 / 99, dt. 28.10.1999 our college was awarded 6th rank out of 117 Aided Colleges at PG level and 36th rank out of 142 Aided Colleges at the UG level, all over the state.
